Zinc partners with AquAid to bring new water wells to Africa
At The Zinc Group, we look for ways to support both the physical and mental health of our staff. One of the simplest ways of doing this is providing filtered water stations around our offices to ensure people stay hydrated. Whilst this is a basic service, we looked into suppliers where there was going to be more of a value add than the mere product itself.
Our unique relationship with AquAid has given our company the opportunity to help those less fortunate than ourselves because with each purchase an automatic donation is made to The Africa Trust.
These funds are used to build ‘Elephant Pumps’ – a modified version of an age-old Chinese rope pulley system. One such pump is currently being installed in Africa on our behalf and it will be a much-needed source of clean and fresh drinking water for many locals in the area.
To date, AquAid has built over 8,000 such Elephant Pumps across parts of Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe, and has donated in excess of £18 million to The Africa Trust charity.
Dougie McManus, Group CEO said: “This initiative was something that we immediately wanted to be involved with. As a business, we believe that we have a moral obligation to help those less fortunate than ourselves whenever the opportunity arises. It is easy to take for granted something as simple as access to fresh, safe drinking water, but for many people, the reality is that this essential requirement isn’t readily available. When AquAid discussed with us the possibility of getting behind this wonderful campaign, it was an easy decision to make. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the team at AquAid and praise them for the great work they are doing in this area”.
